Mac Menu Bar Timer App: Menubar Countdown - A Free and Open Source Timer for macOS

The simplest timer and stopwatch possible. It shows up in the menubar. Click to start or pause, right-click to reset. Click on the settings button to change time, load a preset, customize global keyboard shortcuts and more. Timey 3 has been redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up with these key areas in mind:

Mac Menu Bar Timer App

The Clock app design is very similar to the iPad version and its more compact iPhone version. A single window gives you four tab options for world clock, alarm, stopwatch, and timer. The world clock scales best to Mac-sized displays, especially if you have multiple cities added, while the other sections adjust decently.

Where the Clock app surprises and delights is around timers. If you set a timer, the countdown is automatically added to the menu bar at the top of your Mac. Clicking it opens the Clock app, and the countdown continues even if you quit the Clock app. I can see this new built-in feature being very useful for managing tasks and time while working on the Mac.

What happens when a timer or alarm goes off? The Clock app pushes a notification that persists until you dismiss it. The timer or alarm sound ring out, although it can be difficult to hear over playing music so be careful..

Unfortunately, the Clock app on the Mac suffers the same limitation as the iPhone and iPad version around timers; you can only set a single timer for now. Multiple timer support is still limited to HomePod and Apple Watch.

Bringing the Clock app to the Mac might seem trivial at first, but having timers at all will likely be a welcome feature for macOS Ventura users. The new Weather app on Mac and iPad is also pretty good. macOS 13 Ventura is a free update for compatible Macs.

While you can set timers of all lengths online, you only truly experience the beauty of anticipation when you can reliably look at upcoming events day to day, which means getting a countdown clock app for your Mac.

Moment is an all-in-one app for celebrating your life. Just like WaitingList, you can find it quietly tracking time in your menu bar, although you can specify for certain memorable events to have icons of their own. Moment clearly shows you how much time is left until a certain event, how much time has passed, and tracks event progress too.

As you can see, there are quite a few ways you can anticipate something exciting, from simply setting the online countdown timer to getting a dedicated Mac app like WaitingList or Moment to track all sorts of time progressions.

MacOS gives us many different tools to keep us productive. You may end up using your Mac very differently from others. In this article, I will share a few apps and ways that help me make the most of it. This is going to be an article series and I will start by sharing what is in my menu bar.

I wish I could share another app that perfectly fits into the menu bar, and that would be a weather app. There are some great options, but they are not free. This is why I started my own project to make a simple and free Weather app for your menu bar. But, more on that in the upcoming posts.

It can operate right on the menu bar, e.g., Harvest app, where you can start/stop a timer right from the menu bar.if(typeof ez_ad_units != 'undefined')ez_ad_units.push([[728,90],'sarunw_com-box-3','ezslot_7',107,'0','0']);__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-sarunw_com-box-3-0');

In this article, we will learn what it takes to create a toy menu bar application. It is an app that shows a number from 1 to 3, and you change it by tapping it and selecting the new number from the menu item.

1 You need to create a property to hold the NSStatusItem instance. Otherwise, it will immediately deallocate after out of the applicationDidFinishLaunching method scope.2 Create a new instance of NSStatusItem, which will automatically add to the menu bar. But it has no appearance at this stage. You need to customize it by modifying the button property.3 We customize our menu bar by adding an image to it. We use SF Symbols in this case.if(typeof ez_ad_units != 'undefined')ez_ad_units.push([[336,280],'sarunw_com-box-4','ezslot_6',110,'0','0']);__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-sarunw_com-box-4-0');

The last step is where you add a function to your application. Our toy app needs to present menu items when users click on the menu bar item, and that is what we are going to do here.if(typeof ez_ad_units != 'undefined')ez_ad_units.push([[300,250],'sarunw_com-large-leaderboard-2','ezslot_8',112,'0','0']);__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-sarunw_com-large-leaderboard-2-0');

Run the app, and we got a working menu bar app.if(typeof ez_ad_units != 'undefined')ez_ad_units.push([[300,250],'sarunw_com-large-mobile-banner-1','ezslot_11',114,'0','0']);__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-sarunw_com-large-mobile-banner-1-0');

This post lists 5 free menu bar Pomodoro timer apps for MAC. These apps allow you to have a timer app running on the MAC menu bar. The countdown in all these apps is 25 minutes long by default, but if you want to use some short intervals for the timer then you can do that. Most of the following app are written for MAC but some of them can be run on Windows 10. The difference is that in Windows, you will be able to control them from the Taskbar. Pomodoro is an old technique which is very good for making you productive. In this technique, you use a traditional 25 minutes countdown timer and you have to complete task during that interval. You can divide your tasks and then accomplish them before time runs out. And that is what the apps that I have listed below let you do. You just start a timer and make sure that you complete your task before the timer reaches to zero. These apps are good for programmers, students, teachers, and other people. Pomojo is one of the best free menu bar Pomodoro timer apps for MAC. This is a simple app for MAC menu bar where you can set daily goals and then use the timer accordingly. The default length of the countdown is 25 minutes which you can change based on your work. You can fully control this Pomodoro app right from the menu bar and keep track of the remaining time without opening the app interface. When the timer runs out, it throws a notification and plays an alert sound. From the app settings, you can configure the break intervals, daily goals, and opt out for notifications if you want to.

Pomodoro is good menu bar timer app for MAC users that uses Pomodoro approach. With this simple app, you can see the timer in the menu bar and it even lets you start/stop timer with the keyboard shortcuts. Not only this, but it lets you customize the work and relax time and it uses a desktop notification dialog box when the timer finishes. The interface of this timer is pretty cool as there is an animated spinner which indicates the progress of the elapsed time.

Pomoelectron is another free app for MAC menu bar that you can use to track time. It uses always on top pop up to show the timer and you can start/stop it from there. Using its red tomato like icon, you can open and close this app and use it whenever you want. Customization options are missing in this app but you can use it if you just want the Pomodoro technique on you MBP or iMAC. The interface is pretty simple and you just have to start the timer and get notified when it finishes.

You can use this Pomodoro app in the same way as other app mentioned here. You get the binary, install it, and then simply allow it. After that, you can start the timer and pause in between the process if you want to. Also, it lets you reset the timer if you want to. You can use the long breaks and short breaks section to start the relaxing timer. The app runs on top and use the power button to close it.

Mater is an extremely simple and menu bar Pomodoro app for MAC in my list. It has a peculiar interface which pretty much looks like an inch tape. There are markings for the different time intervals. When the timer is running, you can see its starts from its menu bar icon. It uses the standard 25 minutes work time and 5 minutes relax the interval. However, the timer settings are not customizable here; they are fixed. It uses the red color from the work time and green color for the break timer.

So, just get the app binary from above, allow the application and then its icon will appear. Simply start the timer and then it will start showing the countdown in ts menu bar icon. Also, when the timer runs out, it will play an alert sound. However, there are no notifications. In addition to all this, if you want to stop the timer before reaching the zero, then it lest you do that.

All the apps that I have listed above offer you a simple and effective Pomodoro timer that will help you boost your productivity. You just install them and use them. There are different features in these apps that you will like. If you just want to get the Pomodoro functionality with simplicity then go for Mater and Pomoelectron. Another way to use a timer on your Mac is by downloading a timer app. You can do this through the Apple Store. You will need to set up the app, and it should go off after a while or depending on what you'd like it to do. One reliable timer app you can download is Parallels Toolbox.
